MORRISTOWN, NJ- The Penn State Abington women's basketball team defeated the College of Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday evening during the First Round of NEAC Playoffs. Five days prior to tonight's game, the Nittany Lions dropped to the Eagles at home by 11 points. But found a spark to rally past the Eagles in tonight's 65-47 win.
It started from the very first quarter when Abington doubled the Eagles score 10-5. Chemistry was found between Abington's fantastic four; Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA), Sydney Barrow (Philadelphia, PA), Laquana Nagbe (Philadelphia, PA), and Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL). Richmond hit a crucial 3 pointer with less than a minute left, sending Abington into halftime with the 28-19 lead.
The Eagles closed the gap at the end of the 3rd quarter, trailing by 4 points. But timely shooting, and back to back three pointers done by Wynter Bess and Sydney Barrow, gave Abington a comfortable 12 point cushion. The College of Saint Elizabeth struggled to find a basket in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Abington used this to their advantage and kept the foot on the pedal for a vengeance win.
Abington's top shooters tonight were Sydney Barrow who put up 22 points, Shayna Rodriguez with 18, and Iman Richmond scored 13. Freshman Wynter Bess and junior Laquana Nagbe each had 5 points for the Nittany Lions.
The Nittany Lions will advance to the NEAC final four this weekend. The NEAC will soon release the advancing winners and game times for this weekend.Â
