Softball Falls in NEAC First Round

WILLIAMSPORT, PA- The Penn State Abington women's softball team traveled to Penn College on Tuesday afternoon to compete in the North Eastern Athletic Conference First Round. The Nittany Lions were defeated by the Wildcats 5-2, and finish the season 16-22 overall and 11-7 in conference.
 
Penn College took an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and out hit Abington 9-5. Sophmore Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) led off the top of the third inning for Abington with a triple to left field. Freshman Mary Kate Smith (Springfield, PA) scored Andreoli with a RBI bunt.
 
Abington was able to push one more run across the plate in the top of the 6th inning when Becca Dougherty (Churchville, PA) led off with a triple to left field. Danielle Hebling (Warminster, Pa.) scored Dougherty with a single, adding one more to Abington's 2-0 lead. However, Abington was unable to score the rest of the game.The Nittany Lions accumulated nine strike outs in their 5-2 defeat.
