Abington Exits NCAA Tournament With Loss to Salisbury

SALISBURY MD,  - The Penn State Abington baseball team saw their season come to a close after a 5-2 loss to host Salisbury University on Saturday morning. The Nittany Lions end their season with a 23-17 record.

Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) led the Nittany Lions at the plate with a solo home run while Bill Trimble (Yardley, PA) and Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) went 2-of-4 for the day.

Abington was first on the scoreboard after McCarty stunned the nationally ranked Seagulls with his shot over the left field wall. The Nittany Lions held the slim margin until the third inning when Salisbury tied the game off an RBI triple down the right field line. Later in the inning the hosts took the lead with a sacrifice fly. Up 2-1 the Seagulls added to the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI double. Abington chipped away at the lead when Paul Woodley (Levittown, PA) drove in Brett Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) to bring the Nittany Lions within striking distance. The Seagulls added to their total in the seventh inning with RBI singles and closed the Nittany Lions out to advance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Nittany Lions close their season with their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance and North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament championship.
