Softball Drops Pair on Day Two of Spring Break

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C- On day two of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic, the Penn State Abington team faced opponents Medaille College and Lycoming College. The Nittany Lions dropped both games and fall to 0-4 on the season.

Offensively in game one, both the Nittany Lions and Mavericks produced six hits. However, the Nittany Lions left eight runners on base, which prevented their ability to push runs across the plate, and resulted in a 3-0 defeat. Sophomore Mary Kate Smith (Springfield, PA) led Abington at the plate with two hits.

In game two, the Lycoming Warriors defeated Abington 10-1. The Nittany Lions scored their first run of the day in the second inning when Gabby Gaskin (Flourtown, PA) led off with a single to right field. Gaskin scored after Kourtney Schneider (Ewing, NJ) delivered her first hit of the season, with a powerful double down the left field line.

Mary Kate Smith finished the day 4 for 6 at the plate, and currently leads Abington with a .545 batting average.

Abington will return to action on Thursday when face Centenary University at 11:30am, followed by Franciscan University at 1:30pm.
