MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Penn State Abington softball team concluded the 2020 season down at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Nittany Lions split on the day against opponents Albert Magnus College and Cazenovia College.
In game one, the Falcons defeated the Nittany Lions 11-2. Abington's only two runs of the game were scored in the first inning when
Shayna Cuiffitelli delivered a 2 run RBI single.Â
In game two, the Nittany Lions faced NEAC opponent Cazenovia College in a seven inning thriller. The Wildcats got on board in the first inning with three runs, but Abington answered back by forcing two runs across the plate, off passed balls. Caz added another two runs in the top of the fourth, and Abington reciprocated with adding two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jackie McMenamin hit four singles back to back to put Abington in a 5-4 trail.Â
Freshman
Maddie Duffy tied the game for Abington in the bottom of the 5th innning with a RBI single through the right side to scoreÂ
Shayna Cuiffitelli. At the top of the seventh Cazenovia took the lead back 7-5, after scoring two runs.
Determined to go down without a fight, Abington's rally started when freshman
Jenna Gorman led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to right field. Fellow freshman
Gabby Gaskin followed Gorman with a single to right to set the stage for
Maddie Duffy. With a 1-2 count, Duffy hit a screaming line drive into right field that got past the glove of the Wildcats fielder. The speedy freshman used her lightning speed to clear the bases and stomp across the plate for a walk off inside the park home run.
Maddie Duffy finished the evening with four RBI's.Â
Abington concludes their spring season with an overall 3-5 record.
