AURORA, NY – The Penn State men's soccer team picked up a crucial win to put them in the hunt for the United East Conference Tournament after a 2-0 win at Wells on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 6-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference.
Right now the Nittany Lions sit in the fourth seed for the tournament and control their destiny for a seat at the United East Tournament hosted at Penn State Harrisburg.
Abington dominated the possession and fired 27 shots with 11 on target while holding the Express to only nine shots for the afternoon.
In the first half the Nittany Lions struggled to breakthrough despite firing 15 shots in the first half. Right before the break the Nittany Lions earned a penalty where sophomore
Michael Thomas stepped up to the spot and converted for his team leading sixth goal of the season.
Coming off the bench in the second half freshman Joe Brown provided an immediate impact and earned his first career goal that was assisted by
Brian Gibson. Wells tested the Nittany Lions with seven shots but shot themselves in the foot by getting a red card late in the half. Down to 10 men the Express couldn't overcome the Nittany Lions.
Abington will start off a busy week when they travel to Rutgers Camden on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
