Men's Basketball Bounces Back Against Mary Baldwin, 70-67

GETTYSBURG, PA. – In the consolation round of the Gettysburg Tip-off Tournament the Penn State Abington men's basketball team held of Mary Baldwin University 70-67 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 2-2 for the season.

Freshman Zach Semmler and junior Alex Podolski led the Nittany Lions in scoring with 14 points each.  Junior Brian Randolph III dominated under the bucked scooping up 15 rebounds and scoring 13 points for another double-double this season.

In the first half Abington took an 8-4 lead thanks to some early points from Jomiloju Odumosu. After five minutes of action the Fighting Squirrels rallied and pulled ahead after an 11-0 run. A shot from downtown from Semmler sparked a response from the Nittany Lions, and a three ball from Alex Salata gave the Nittany Lions a slim lead. Abington pushed the lead to double-digits and off a fast break three-ball from Semmler the Nittany Lions held a commanding 33-19 advantage with five minutes left in the half. The Fighting Squirrels stayed true to their name and battled back when they hit shots from behind the arc to come within six points. With only two seconds left in the half a jumper from Randolph gave the Nittany Lions a 41-33 lead a t the break.

Mary Baldwin chipped away at the lead in the second half but Abington kept them at bay.  Salata came up with a huge turnover and took it back for the huge dunk to keep the Nittany Lions in front.  With five minutes left on the clock the Fighting Squirrels took a 64-63 lead after a three pointer from Thomas Tyler. Abington responded with a three-ball of their own from Randolph and held on thanks to clutch three throws down the stretch by Salata.

Abington will return home to host Clarks Summit University on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
