ABINGTON, Pa. – A career high of 23 points put up by Alex Podolski led the Penn State Abington men's basketball team to a comfortable 76-60 win over Immaculata on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 5-3 for the season.
Podolski finished the day with a double-double scoring 23 and getting 11 boards while dishing out five assists. Senior Mohamed Mansaray earned 12 points for Abington after going 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
In the first half Darrion Harris set the tone by draining a three-ball with the first shot of the game. Abington pulled ahead 10-3 after three minutes thanks to a shot from downtown from Brian Randolph III. The Mighty Macs rallied with a 10-0 run and pulled ahead 13-10 around the 11 minute mark. The Nittany Lions battled with the Mighty Macs with the lead changing hands five times over the next five minutes. Abington finally pulled ahead in the final five minutes of action, and layup in the paint from Dan Prior gave the Nittany Lions a double-digit 36-26 lead. Right before the break the Mighty Macs cut the deficit, but the Nittany Lions rolled into the break ahead 36-29.
Both teams couldn't miss in the first two minutes of action scoring five straight shots between the pair. Harris put the Nittany Lions back into a double-digit lead with his shot from behind the arc. With a 10 point advantage already, the Nittany Lions pushed their lead even further with a 7-2 run highlighted by a fast break bucket off a steal from Podolski.  Down the stretch the Nittany lions kept the heat on and hit some clutch free throws to keep the Mighty Macs from making a comeback.
The Nittany Lions continue at home when they host Bryn Athyn on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
