Nittany Lions Top TCNJ, 8-1

ABINGTON, Pa. – A dominate pitching performance from junior pitcher Ryan McCarty smothered TCNJ in an 8-1 win on Saturday afternoon. After the win the Nittany Lions improve to 3-1.

The junior pitcher picked up his first win of the season striking out eight batters, and allowing only two hits in five innings of work. McCarty hit the century mark, earning his 100th strikeout of his career.

At the plate McCarty led the Nittany Lions with three runs off of one hit.  Freshman Justin Fogel went 2-of-3 with three RBIs and junior Zach Morales also knocked in three runs as well.

McCarty started out hot and struck out three batters to start the first inning. At the plate he smashed his pitch down the left line for the first hit of the day. Next Morales knocked McCarty in with his RBI single to the center field.  Later in the inning Fogel added another run to the Nittany Lions total to give the home team a 3-0 lead. Abington added to their total in the third inning when the Nittany Lions took advantage of bases loaded, and Morales drew a walk to add to their total. Another single out to right field from Fogel knocked in a run for Abington. Brendon Reese finished off the scoring with his sacrifice fly to deep center field.  In the sixth inning a double from Sean Doherty out to deep center field gave the Nittany Lions a 6-0 lead. Abington finished off their scoring with back-to-back sacrifice flies from Morales and Fogel in the seventh inning.

TCNJ pulled a run back with a solo homer in the eighth inning.

Abington will be back in action when they host nationally ranked Rowan University on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
