SAAC Celebrates Community Service Initiatives

ABINGTON, PA. - Abington's SAAC committee is working on upcoming events, partnerships, and community services initiatives. The student athletes are doing great work with different organizations despite COVID restrictions.

Abington athletics plans on being a part of some great community service events. They have already contributed to the canned/nonperishable food drive, donating over 300 canned goods to the Patrician Society Food Drive. This upcoming April the athletes will help the Jeans for Teens program. By donating and collecting denim clothing for teens in need.

The SAAC committee will also do a CAPs (Counseling and Psychological Services) session on zoom. The goal is to help student athletes get to know counselors, talk about mental health, how to identify it, strategies to cope, leadership development, and how to be a better leader.

After speaking with women's basketball senior guard Ashya Gaddy, she expresses how important the workshops and community services activities are her personal development. "SAAC gives me the opportunity to not only be known as an athlete, but someone who partakes in movements in my community or other communities for that matter, it helps me as a student athlete stay responsible and reminds me to keep holding those around me accountable".
