ABINGTON, PA. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team took an early lead over Rutgers-Camden but the visitors rallied to win a 3-1 decision over the Nittany Lions on Tuesday night.
After their first loss of the season the Nittany Lions fall to 3-1 for the year.
Sophomore Emma De Mey led the Nittany Lions with a double-double recording 11 kills and racked up 13 digs for Abington.
The Nittany Lions took an early lead in the first set after a series of attack errors for the Scarlet Raptors but the visitors wouldn't back down and tied the first set 13-13. The lead changed hands, but Camden held a 20-18 advantage before the Nittany Lions went on a 4-0 run thanks to kills from
Jenny McAnaney and De Mey. Camden charged back in to the lead holding a 23-22 lead in the first set but again the Nittany Lions took advantage of mistakes from Camden to take the first set.
The visitors regrouped in the second set and pulled ahead early taking the second set easily by a 25-14 margin to tie the match. A 10-1 run in the third set was too much to overcome for the Nittany Lions and again the visitors took the set. In the fourth set the Nittany Lions battled and came within four points of Rutgers Camden, but couldn't overcome the deficit in a 3-1 loss.
Next the Nittany Lions will take on Bryn Athyn on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.
