ABINGTON, PA - It was a gritty game from Penn State Abington, but it wasn't enough as the Nittany Lions fell to visiting St. Mary's College of Maryland, 63-50, in United East Conference action.

Penn State Abington (7-6, 1-3), which opened the game with an 11-3 spurt, found itself trailing by 17, 35-18, at the break. However, the Nittany Lions kept crawling back and pulled its deficit to seven on four different occasions. The last came with just 4:22 left as an
Isaac Kennon jumper made it a 52-45 contest. However, the Seahawks (6-5, 5-0) responded with a 11-3 run to put the contest away.
The Nittany Lions' defense was a key factor in their near comeback, holding the Seahawks to just 28 percent from beyond the arc in the second half, compared to 44 percent in the first. Three of Penn State's players had at least eight rebounds (
Alex Podolski,
Brian Randolph III, and
Jomiloju Odumosu), while no one for St. Mary's had more than six.

Penn State Abington grabbed 18 rebounds on the offense end, compared to the Seahawks' seven, and it led to 19 second-chance points. Randolph III led the team in scoring with 13 points, with
Darrion Harris trailing right behind with 12. Odumosu added seven points to go with his nine boards

For St. Mary's, forward Gary Grant led the way with 17 points, six rebounds, and three steals on the night. Grant was helped by guard Jordan Goodwin, who finished with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting. The Seahawk bench produced 28 point (Penn State Abington had six)
