Abington Shutouts Gallaudet 6-0 in Season Finale

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 6-0 shutout victory against visiting Gallaudet University in United East Conference (UEC) action on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.

How It Happened
 
* Abington scored all six of its goals in the first half with the first three coming within a four-minute span of one another.  Sophomore Sarah Gibbons scored the game's first goal in the ninth minute of action with freshman Emma Frasca assisting on the play.
 
* The Nittany Lions scored back-to-back goals in the 12th and 13th minutes to increase their lead to 3-0.  Junior Grace Burns scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season with sophomore Madison McDowell coming up with the assist.  Freshman Nikki Fischbach connected on her second goal of the season from beyond the box as Gibbons setup the play.
 
* Leading 3-0, McDowell scored her eighth goal of the season in the 16th minute.  Gibbons then connected on her second goal of the game and sixth of the season in the 25th minute.
 
* Junior Alyssa Hellyer capped the scoring in the 27th minute with her first collegiate goal.  Freshman Kaia Foss assisted on the play for her first career assist.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Abington had four players combine for the shutout in net.  Senior Lindsey McCarty started for the Nittany Lions and was credited with the win.  McDowell, Burns and Gibbons all entered in relief with Gibbons registering the team's lone save in the second half.
 
* Burns finished the season with 12 goals which is tied for sixth most in program history.  Her 12 goals increased her career total to 23 which ties her for fourth-place all-time with Kayla Nolan (2013-14).  Burns is also tied for fourth with Nolan with 52 career points.
 
* Gibbons concluded the season as the program's single season record holder for assists with nine.  The previous mark of eight was held by Desirae Holmes since 2013.  Gibbons has 10 career assists and is tied for fourth all-time with Molly Wyman (2013-15).
 
* McDowell finished the season with eight goals and four assists for 20 points.  As a result, she pushed herself into the top-10 in goals and points.  She's currently tied for 10th all-time with 15 career goals with Desirae Holmes (2012-15) and tied for 10th with 36 points with Molly Wyman (2013-15).
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 11th meeting between Abington and Gallaudet since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions remain perfect against the Bison in the all-time series with an 11-0-0 record.
