WINTER HAVEN, FL – Penn State Abington rallied from an 8-4 deficit to post a 14-10 victory over Rhode Island College in the opening game of its Spring Break trip.
The Nittany Lions improved to 3-2 while the Anchormen slipped to 1-3.
Penn State Abington trailed by four heading into the fifth inning when it scored five runs on five hits.
Montana Milward drove in the first run of the stanza with an RBI single and another scored on a balk.
Matt Crisci singled in a tally and
Zach Morales gave the Nittany Lions the lead for good with a two-run single and a 9-8 advantage.
Penn State Abington added five more runs in the seventh on a
Tim Petrucelli double, a two-run single by
Josh Baar and RBI singles from
Sean Doherty and
Louis Rossner. Rhode Island plated two runs in the ninth, but it wasn't enough in the 14-10 final.
Morales finished the day 4-for-6 with five RBIs. Baar was 2-for-6 and drove in two while
Chase Swain was 4-for-4 at the leadoff spot and scored four times. Doherty was 3-for-4 and
Ryan McCarty had two hits in the win.
Ryan Hansbury picked up the victory in relief.
Cal Parrillo drove in three runs for the Anchormen.
