Abington Cruises Past Wilson, 5-0

Chambersburg, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team picked up a non-conference road victory as the Nittany Lions defeated Wilson College, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Kris's Meadow.

How It Happened
 
* Sophomore Arsene Bado scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 12th minute of action to open the scoring.  Bado's goal, assisted by freshman Tony Colon, set the pace for the Nittany Lions as the team scored five goals in the game.
 
* Colon would go on to double the Nittany Lions' lead with a goal of his own in the 22nd minute.  Junior Mike Thomas and sophomore Brian Farrell set up the scoring play for Colon.
 
* The score remained 2-0 in favor of Abington through halftime.  Abington added a score early on in the second half when sophomore Louie Lare connected on a goal to make the score 3-0 in the 56th minute.  Sophomore Eljo Agolli assisted on the play for his team-leading fifth helper of the season.
 
* Freshman Arber Canole capped the scoring for the Nittany Lions as he registered the first two goals of his collegiate career.  Canole recorded his first goal in the 69th minute and then less than 10 minutes later came through with goal number two in the 79th minute.  Fellow freshman Arlin Shehu assisted on the latter goal for his first collegiate assist.

* Abington pressured Wilson all game as the Nittany Lions totaled 29 shots with 18 on-goal compared to just eight total shots by the Phoenix.  Abington also held a huge advantage on corner kick opportunities, 7-0.
 
* Senior goalkeeper Matt Sheldon finished the day with three saves as he recorded a combined shutout with sophomore Dan Detweiler for the second time this season. 
 
* With his three saves, Sheldon now has 95 career saves and is five shy of reaching 100.  Only three other players in program history have reached 100-plus saves in their respective careers.  Sheldon currently sits fourth all-time. 
 
* Bado's opening goal marked the sixth score of the season, which currently ranks second among the United East leaders.  Agolli is also ranked with his five assists being second most in the conference this season.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Wilson since the start of the 2015 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 6-0-0 versus the Phoenix in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 as the Nittany Lions host Wells College in a United East match up.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
