Abington to Face Penn College in United East Divisional Quarterfinals

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team will be appearing in the postseason for the first time since 2017 when the sixth-seeded Nittany Lions travel to face third-seeded Penn College on Saturday afternoon in the United East Conference (UEC) Divisional quarterfinals.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.

About Penn State Abington
Senior Grace Burns and junior Madison McDowell have combined to score 13 of the team's 20 goals this season.  Burns, the program's all-time goals leader, has totaled six goals and one assist for 13 points this season.  McDowell has scored seven goals; one shy of her career-high set a season ago.  She also has three assists for a total of 17 points.  Junior Kaya Mobley has totaled three goals and leads the team with four assists in her first year with the team.  Freshman Nayesko Ravelo also has three goals on the year.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Wilfrid and freshman Abby Brunnell have split time in net this season.  The duo have totaled 118 saves.  Wilfrid enters the postseason with 60 saves, while Brunnell has 58 stops.
 
About Penn College
The Wildcats offense goes through Kaelynn Sheetz who enters the postseason with 23 goals scored; second most in the United East and tops in the Volt Division.  Cassie Johnson leads the team with eight assists, while Sara Darlington has totaled 19 points on seven goals and five assists. In net the Wildcats feature Nicole Lichtinger who has allowed just 10 goals with a 0.77 goals against average.  She has totaled 65 saves in 13 starts.
 
All-Time Series
Abington and Penn College have met 10 times since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are 3-6-1 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.  Penn College got the best of Abington a few weeks ago with a 6-2 victory at UPMC Field.  Abington and Penn College have met once in the postseason.  In 2016 the two teams tied 1-1 in the then NEAC quarterfinals.  The Wildcats advanced after winning the shootout, 5-4.
 
Abington in the Postseason
Abington will be making its eighth appearance in the postseason and the first since 2017.  The Nittany Lions are 4-4-3 all-time in the NEAC/United East Tournament.

Next Up
The winner of the Volt Divisional quarterfinal will advance to the Divisional semifinals to face either #1 Penn State Berks or #2 Penn State Harrisburg next Tuesday.
