Abington Closes Out Season at Lancaster Bible

Lancaster, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team wrapped up the 2022-23 season on the road against Lancaster Bible College in United East Conference (UEC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Horst Athletic Center.  The Chargers defeated the Nittany Lions by the score of 63-48.

How It Happened
 
* Lancaster Bible opened the third quarter scoring the first five points which turned into an 12-2 run by the Chargers.  Irene Were capped the run making 2-of-3 free throws after being fouled attempting a three-pointer to make the score 43-27.  The Chargers outscored the Nittany Lions, 17-11, in the quarter to lead 48-36 entering the final frame.
 
* In the fourth quarter Abington cut the deficit down to singles digits twice with the latter coming with 6:42 to play in regulation.  Senior Isabella Vazquez scored a layup basket to make the score 50-41.  However, Lancaster Bible would increase its lead back to double-figures two possessions later and would go on to lead by as many as 17 points (60-43) in the final two minutes of action. 
 
* Neither team led by more than two possessions in the first half until late in the second quarter.  Leading 26-21, the Chargers pushed their lead to seven points after a pair of free throws by Sydney Heller.  Lancaster Bible pushed its lead to as many as eight points in the quarter at 31-23 before junior Camille Fleming scored the final basket of the half to cut the lead to 31-25.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Angela Sanders led all scorers with a game-high 22 points and finished with a game-high 13 rebounds to record her 13th double-double of the season. 
 
* Vazquez added 10 points and six rebounds while leading the team with five assists. 
 
* Sophomore Safara McIntyre totaled nine points while adding four points and three assists. 
 
* Fleming totaled seven points and six rebounds in the game.
 
* For the Chargers, Jenna Dombach and Mikayla Via each totaled 15 points.
 
Climbing the Record Books
 
* Sanders finished the season with a career-high 423 points as she now has 842 points in her career.  She will enter her senior season ranked sixth all-time and only 158 points shy of 1,000 for her career.  In addition, Sanders set a career-high with 236 rebounds as she jumped to fourth all-time with 468 career rebounds.
 
* Fleming surpassed 400 rebounds with her six rebounds in today's game and now has 401 for her career ranking seventh most in program history.   
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 24th meeting between Abington and Lancaster Bible since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 3-21 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.
