Abington Picks Up 6-3 Victory over Saint Elizabeth

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team defeated Saint Elizabeth University by the score of 6-3 in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles competitions.  Junior Elisa Steinhardt and freshman Soniyah Youngblood teamed up at first doubles to pick up an 8-3 win over Dayanna Vera and Lauren Griesmeyer.  Steinhardt and Youngblood are now 6-3 on the year as doubles partners.
 
* Junior Kelsey Patterson and sophomore Isabella DePorre won their second doubles match with an 8-2 score against Gianna Zappa and Herbina Exume.
 
* Saint Elizabeth earned the point at third doubles by default.
 
* In singles play, Steinhardt picked up the win at first flight as she defeated Vera in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
 
* Youngblood won her second singles match against Griemeyer in straight sets.  Youngblood won the first set, 7-6, after taking the tie-break 8-6.  She fell behind 6-5 in the tie-break but won three points in a row to get the win.  Youngblood then took the second set, 6-2.
 
* DePorre rallied to get the win at third singles against Melissa Evers.  After dropping the first set, 6-3, DePorre followed with a 6-3 victory in the second set.  She went on to cruise to a 6-0 victory in the third and decisive set.
 
* Freshman Abbey Anderson recorded her first career singles victory as she defeated Keyere Williams, 10-6, in a 10-game pro set.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Saint Elizabeth since the start of the 2012-13 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 9-0 versus the Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, April 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Arcadia University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 3 p.m.
