How It Happened

* St. Mary's took all three doubles competitions to open the match with a 3-0 lead.  At second doubles, juniors Neil Guarino and Josh Kurek battled tough with the Seahawks' Nick Rohr and Daoud Alkhalidi.  In the match every game was a held serve except the very first one.  Rohr and Alkhalidi went on to take the point with an 8-6 decision.

* At first singles, sophomore Andrew Brown won three games in the second set against Boris Palmade, one of the top players in the region.  It's the most points allowed by Palmade in a single set in conference play as he went on to win the match, 6-0, 6-3. Brown trailed the second set 4-1 before rallying to cut the deficit to 4-3.

* Kurek nearly came away from forcing a third and decisive set against Stephen Alam at second singles.  Alam won the first set, 6-4, and went on to take the second set, 7-5. Kurek staved off four match points in the second set.

* Freshman Tim Belotserkovsky recorded the team's lone set victory at fourth singles as he went the distance with Keawe Johnson.  Belotserkovsky won the first set, 6-4, but Johnson tied the match with a 6-2 win in the second set.  Johnson carried the momentum into the tie-break winning 10-3.

All-Time Series
Today marked just the third meeting between Abington and St. Mary's since the start of last season.  The Seahawks have won all three matches in the all-time series.

That's A Wrap
Abington concludes its season with a 9-7 overall record marking the most victories in a season since winning nine back in 2015-16. It's also the team's first winning season, excluding the Covid year of 2019-20, since 2016-17 when the team went 7-6 overall.
