Abington Swept by Harrisburg in United East Doubleheader

Jenkintown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) doubleheader to visiting Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday afternoon at Alverthorpe Park.  Harrisburg took game one by the score of 10-2 and went on to win game two, 11-5.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* A four-run second inning gave Harrisburg a 5-0 lead through the first two innings.  Matt Parks had a two-run single in the inning.
 
* Harrisburg added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  Carlos Irizarry had a run scoring double in the fifth, while Parks drove in a run in the sixth.
 
* Abington broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth when senior Josh Baar blasted a two-out two-run home run over the left field fence to make the score 7-2. 
 
* Harrisburg tacked on three more runs in the seventh with Parks driving in another two runs.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Baar's sixth inning homer marked his fifth of the season tying his career-high hit last year.  He finished the game 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
 
* Sophomore Steve Corrado went 2-for-3.
 
* Brandon Hightower struck out five batters increasing his season total to 64 as well as his conference lead.
 
* For Harrisburg, Parks finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and six RBI.  Starting pitcher Fisher Druck (7-0) picked up his seventh win of the season has he held Abington to two runs in six innings.  Riley Blatt pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Harrisburg scored a pair of runs to open the game to take a 2-0 lead after one with Parks driving in yet another run.  Harrisburg added single runs the next two innings to increase its advantage to 4-0.
 
* The score remained 4-0 until the sixth when Harrisburg tallied three more runs to make it a 7-0 game.  Tim Haftl drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and later in the inning Dallas Hite hit a two-run home down the left field line.
 
* Abington responded in the bottom of the sixth when senior Zach Morales connected on a two-run homer.  Junior Tim Petrucelli, who led the inning off with a walk, scored on the play.
 
* In the bottom of the eighth senior Sean Doherty led the inning off with a home run to make it 7-3 game. 
 
* Harrisburg scored some insurance runs in the top half of the ninth with a four-run frame increasing its lead to 11-3.  Parks highlighted the inning with a two-run single.
 
* Abington scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning with Petrucelli drawing a bases loaded walk to force in a run followed by a sacrifice fly by Morales.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Morales' sixth inning bomb marked his 10th of the season tying his career-high from a year ago.  It also was his 23rd home run of his career. He finished the game 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI.
 
* Doherty finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI after connecting on his fourth home run of the season.
 
* For Harrisburg, Parks went 3-for-3 with a run and three RBI as he finished the doubleheader with nine RBI.  Christian Lubic II (2-0) earned his second win of the season after going seven-plus innings while striking out four batters.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 19th and 20th matchups between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 8-12 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Postseason Picture
Abington has officially locked up the third seed in the upcoming United East Tournament despite the chance of finishing tied with Lancaster Bible College in the standings.  However, due to the 2-1 regular season record against the Chargers, the Nittany Lions own the tie-break if one is needed.
 
Next Up
Abington will wrap up the regular season with one single game against Harrisburg.  The game was supposed to be played this weekend but has been postponed due to inclement weather that is supposed to hit the region.  The game will be rescheduled to next weekend.  More information will be provided in the coming days.
