How It Happened

* St. Mary's ultimately took all three doubles competitions to open the match with a 3-0 advantage however, Abington nearly pulled the upset at first doubles.  Juniors Tinatin Sadzaglishvili and Elizabeth Turner went the distance against the Seahawks' Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel.  Abington trailed 6-2 but rallied to cut the deficit down to 6-5.  Sadzaglishvili and Turner went on to win the next game to tie the score at 6-6.  The Nittany Lions took the lead at 7-6 when Sadzaglishvili's serve went to deuce, but the Seahawks held to force a tiebreaker.  Abington led the tiebreaker, 3-2, but would fall behind 5-3 after a surge by Levit and Gorel.  Abington chased the rest of the way coming within one point at 6-5 but eventually dropped the tiebreaker, 7-5.

* The Seahawk clinched the match with victories at third and fourth singles.  Junior Elisa Steinhardt battled Sydney Anderson in the first set of their third singles matchup. Anderson edged Steinhardt, 6-4, before winning the match with a 6-1 victory in set two.

* First, second and fifth singles went unfinished, while sixth singles had yet to start.

All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth meeting between Abington and St. Mary's since the start of last season.  Both teams faced one another in last year's United East semifinal as well.  The Seahawks have won all four matchups against the Nittany Lions.
