Abington Falls to Harrisburg in United East Semifinals

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team saw its season come to an end after falling to Penn State Harrisburg, 4-1, in the United East Conference (UEC) semifinals on Wednesday night at the Harrisburg Turf Field.  Abington concluded its season with a 12-6-2 record with its 12 victories the most since winning 14 in 2015.

How It Happened
 
*  Abington scored the game's first goal when senior Madison McDowell launched a free kick towards the net as the ball curved past the Harrisburg keeper for the score.  It marked McDowell's 26th goal of the season as the Nittany Lions took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
 
* Minutes later, Harrisburg tied the game off a score by Ava Fox in the 19th minute.  Harrisburg grabbed the lead moments later when Serenity Hill scored the first of her two goals in the 21st minute. 
 
* The Harrisburg defense limited Abington to just two shots in the opening half and none in the second.  Harrisburg increased its lead to 3-1 when Diana Pon scored in the 66th minute.  Later in the half, Hill scored her second goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.

*  McDowell's first half goal marked her 26th in her record-breaking season that also included 10 assists and 62 points.  She concludes her career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 26 goals and 115 points. McDowell also totaled 19 career assists which is tied for most all-time.
 
* Senior Rachel Wilfrid made 10 saves in net for the Nittany Lions as she increased her career total to 236.  Wilfrid finishes her career with the second most saves all-time. In addition, Wilfrid finished the season with a 1.04 goals against average marking the fourth lowest GAA in a single season.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 2-7-0 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions were appearing in the semifinals for the first time since 2015.  Abington is now 6-6-3 in the postseason all-time.
