Abington Swept by Harrisburg to Open Series

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team opened a three-game United East Conference (UEC) series at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon at Nittany Field.  Harrisburg won the opener by the score of 7-2 and closed out the doubleheader with a 5-1 victory in game two.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Abington took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the second thanks to a two-run homer by senior Montana Milward.  After a single by freshman Donato Incollingo, Milward delivered the pitch by Harrisburg's Kyle Mahady over the fence down the left field line for his sixth home run of the season.
 
* The Abington lead lasted until the bottom of the third when Harrisburg tied the game on a two-out fielding error that scored Carlos Irizarry. Harrisburg regained the lead an inning later with a run scoring hit by Blaine Waltimyer.
 
* Leading 3-2, Harrisburg increased its lead to five with a four-run sixth inning.  Waltimyer scored the inning's first run with a solo home run to right field.  Later in the inning, Kevin Lehner cleared the bases with a three-run hit to make the score 7-2.
 
Inside the Numbers (Game 1)
 
* Milward finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.  His second inning homer marked his sixth of the season setting a new career-high.  He now has 12 home runs in his career.
 
* Abington received hits from Sean Doherty, Shane Fillman and Josh Henderson as well as Incollingo.
 
* Freshman Ethan Hahn went 5.2 innings and struck out five batters.
 
* For Harrisburg, Waltimyer went 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI.  Mahady (5-0) earned his fifth win of the season after a complete seven-inning game performance.  He struck out five batters.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Both teams scored in the opening inning.  Junior Josh McGee gave Abington a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning with a run scoring hit that score junior Jake Fallers.  However, Harrisburg answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
 
* Harrisburg took the lead in the bottom of the third after Lehner drove in Irizarry with a double for the go-ahead run.  Lehner later scored on a fielder's choice to make the score 3-1.
 
* Harrisburg added another run in the fourth off an Irizarry sacrifice fly and capped the scoring with another single run in the seventh.  Dallas Hite drove in Irizarry with a base hit.
 
Inside the Numbers (Game 2)
 
* McGee drove in Abington's lone run as he went 1-for-3 with a walk. 
 
* Fillman went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk.
 
* For Harrisburg, Irizarry went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Danny Eden won his fifth game of the season after going five innings.  He allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out eight batters.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 23rd and 24th matchups between Abington and Harrisburg since the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 9-15 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.

Abington and Harrisburg will wrap up its three-game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
