Abington Falls to Harrisburg in Volt Division Semifinals

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team saw its season come to an end after falling to top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg, 7-0, in the United East Conference (UEC) Volt Division semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Harrisburg opened the match claiming all three doubles competitions.  Senior Elizabeth Turner and freshman Laurie Flemming won a pair of games in their first doubles match against Allison Wootton and Breanna DeSantis, but came up short, 8-2. Harrisburg won second and third doubles by idential 8-0 scores. 
 
* Harrisburg officially clinched the match with victories at fourth and fifth singles to record the five team points needed to advance. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the eighth meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2012 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-6 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.  Today was also just the second time both teams have met in the postseason.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions are now 6-12 all-time in the United East/NEAC Tournament, including an appearance in the 2018-19 championship match.  Abington defeated Lancaster Bible College, 5-3, to earn the program's first conference title that year and its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.  Abington has appeared in 12 straight conference tournaments and has qualified for the postseason every year since joining Division III in 2011-12 with the exception of the 2019-20 season when the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
