Abington Falls to Harrisburg in United East Semifinals

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team saw its season come to an end after falling to Penn State Harrisburg, 5-0, in the United East Conference (UEC) semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Harrisburg took all three doubles competitions to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the match.  In a back-and-forth first doubles match, senior Josh Kurek and freshman Wenxu Gu held a 6-5 lead over Cooper Wheeler and Damir Cuturic.  However, the Harrisburg duo managed to score the next three points to take the match, 8-6.
 
* In third doubles, freshmen Tripp Mangifesta and Lucca Frederico trailed 5-2 in the match but rallied to come within one point of tying the match at 5-4 over Andrew Schreck and Vik Patel.  Despite the effort, Harrisburg held on for an 8-4 victory in the match.
 
* Harrisburg clinched the victory with wins at second and fourth singles.  Cuturic won at second singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Schreck won his fourth singles match, 6-0, 6-2.
 
* Gu led his first singles match against Wheeler with a 6-3 victory in set one before the match was called.  Mangifesta also led his third singles match, 6-3, against ZiJun Ou at the time the match was decided.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2012 season.  Abington is now 1-6 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Abington in the Postseason
After a year hiatus, the Nittany Lions returned to the postseason for the 13th time since joining Division III.  Abington is now 7-10 all-time in the United East Tournament (formerly NEAC). Abington finished conference play 5-2 to earn the third seed in this year's tournament.
