Abington Dominates Valley Forge in Three Sets

Immaculata, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team defeated the University of Valley Forge, 3-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon in the team's first of two matches on the day at Immaculata University.  The Nittany Lions will face the Mighty Macs starting at 3 p.m. this afternoon in part of a tri-match at Alumnae Hall.

How It Happened
 
*  Abington dominated the opening set with a 25-3 victory over the Patriots.  Leading 7-2, the Nittany Lions scored 12 unanswered points to take a commanding 19-2 advantage.  The Abington defense held Valley Forge to just two offensive points the entire set.
 
* In the second set the Nittany Lions opened with a 6-0 lead after taking advantage of four miscues by Valley Forge.  Abington grabbed a double-digit lead at 13-3 after sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin recorded a kill.  From there, the team maintained its double digit lead and took the set, 25-5.
 
* The Nittany Lions clinched the match with a 25-8 triumph in the third set.  Abington scored the first eight points of the set and never looked back.  Junior Maddie Gajewski recorded three service aces in the opening run.  Gajewski finished the match with four aces.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Abington took advantage of 38 errors by the Valley Forge offense, while holding the Patriots to just five kills in the match.
 
* Jamaladdin led the Nittany Lions with five kills, while junior Alyssa Flickinger and freshman Ellie Van Otten each totaled four kills.
 
* Freshman Fabiola Medina finished with a match-high eight digs to go along with four aces. 
 
* Abington totaled 17 aces in the match with Gajewski and Medina leading the way with four each.  Freshman Ella McDonough had three aces.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Abington and Valley Forge since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 12-1 versus the Patriots in the all-time series.

Abington will face Immaculata to close out the Mighty Macs' tri-match in a non-conference contest starting at 3 p.m. this afternoon.
