Abington Shuts Down Wildcats, 3-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball improved to 4-2 in the United East Conference (UEC) after defeating visiting Penn College in three sets on Tuesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Abington wasted zero time attacking the Wildcats as the Nittany Lions opened the match with an 8-0.  Abington held a 14-7 lead and followed with seven straight points, including three aces and a kill from sophomore Ellie Van Otten as the lead swelled to 21-7.  The Nittany Lions clinched the first set off a kill from freshman Naomi Seymour at 25-10.
 
* In a much closer second set, Abington rallied late breaking a 12-12 tie and turning it into a 21-13 advantage after a 9-1 surge.  Junior Zayna Jamaladdin highlighted the run with three kills. The Nittany Lions took the set, 25-16.
 
* In the third set the Nittany Lions never trailed and led 7-2 early in the set.  Abington maintained a healthy lead that eventual reached double-digits at 22-12 after a Penn College attack error. The Nittany Lions took advantage of six attack errors by the Wildcats in the set, including the final point at 25-14.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Abington hitters totaled 30 kills in the match and only committed four errors; the fewest by the team this season.  The Nittany Lions recorded a season-best .413 attack percentage.
 
* Jamaladdin recorded a team-high 10 kills to go along with nine digs and three aces.  She finished the match with a .429 attack percentage.
 
* Van Otten added eight kills, including five in the final set, with a .438 attack percentage for the match.  She also recorded a career-high six aces.
 
* Freshman Maya Giles finished with six kills, while Seymour added four kills.
 
* Sophomore Fabiola Medina had a match-high 11 digs to go along with a pair of aces.

* Junior Ryenn Mamrosch totaled 14 assists, while sophomore Hailey Revak finished with 13 assists and two aces.
 
* For Penn College, Lilly Stockum finished with a match-high 13 kills, while Ellen Banfill totaled 20 assists and seven digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 12-0 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 as the Nittany Lions host a tri-match with the University of Valley Forge and Baruch College.  Abington will face Valley Forge in a United East match at 11 a.m. and then take on Baruch in a non-conference match at 3 p.m.
