Abington Holds Off Mighty Macs, 4-3

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team came away with a 4-3 triumph over visiting Immaculata University in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Abington earned the team point after the conclusion of doubles competitions.  The Nittany Lions team of Charlie Batman and Kaan Ofluoglu picked up a 6-4 victory at second doubles against Mike DeMattei and Nicholas Brown.  Batman and Ofluoglu trailed 3-2 but rallied to go up 4-3 and then 5-4.  After breaking serve, Batman got the winning point.  Abington also won at third doubles by forfeit.
 
* In singles play, freshman Daniel Trott won his first singles match against Easton Ragno. Trott won the opening set, 6-2, and then won a hard-fought second set, 7-6.  Trott trailed the tiebreaker point 3-0 but won seven straight points for the 7-3 win.
 
* Ofluoglu added a singles victory to his afternoon defeating DeMattei in straight sets at fourth singles.  He won his match by identical 6-1 scores.
 
* Abington also received a point at sixth singles by forfeit.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Immaculata.  The Nittany Lions defeated the Mighty Macs during the 2023-24 season.
 
Next Up
Abington will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 21 with a non-conference match at Penn State Brandywine.  Match time is set for 3 p.m.
