Abington Takes Both Matches at Home Tri-Match

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team shutout both its opponents in a home tri-match on Saturday at the Abington Athletic Building.  The Nittany Lions opened the day with a 3-0 victory against the University of Valley Forge in a United East Conference (UEC) contest and then capped the tri-match with another 3-0 triumph against Baruch College in a non-conference match.

How It Happened (vs. Valley Forge)

* The Abington defense limited the Patriots to just one kill in the opening set and only allowed 10 kills the entire match.  Whereas the Nittany Lion offense finished the match with 30 kills; 10 in each set, with a .275 team attack percentage.
 
* The Nittany Lions dominated on the serve collecting 17 aces throughout the match. 
 
* Valley Forge finished the match with a negative (-.121) attack percentage.

* Junior Zayna Jamaladdin finished with a match-high eight kills while hitting at a .292 clip.  Jamaladdin had one error on 24 total attempts.

* Junior Brynn Atkins and sophomore Ellie Van Otten each finished with six kills.
 
* Freshman Maya Giles totaled six of the team's 17 aces, while freshman Mari Banjoff totaled five aces and eight assists.  Both set new season-highs in aces.
 
* For Valley Forge, Hadassah Rivera recorded a match-high 19 digs.

Today marked the 15th meeting between Abington and Valley Forge since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 14-1 versus the Patriots in the all-time series.
 
Inside the Box Score (vs. Baruch)
 
* Jamaladdin came away with a match-high 11 kills as she finished the tri-match with 19 kills.  She also had three aces and seven digs against Baruch.
 
* Sophomore Fabiola Medina totaled a match-high 24 digs setting a new season-best.  She Medina also recorded a career-high seven aces.

* Banjoff tied her season-high with another five aces, which she established earlier in the day against Valley Forge.  She also had seven assists and four digs.
 
* Sophomore Hailey Revak led the team with 16 assists to go along with six digs.
 
* Atkins totaled six kills and one block assist.
 
* For Baruch, Karolina Lundqvist totaled eight kills, while Pei Qiong Ren led the team with 14 digs.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Baruch.
 
Block Party
Atkins, the program's all-time blocks leader, totaled three blocks (2BS/1BA) on the day and now has a 150 total blocks in her career.  With her two solo blocks against Valley Forge, she is now six shy of tying Andia Anderson (64) for the all-time lead.  Atkins has 58 career solo blocks.

Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Cairn University in a United East contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
