Abington Falls to Cairn in United East Clash

Langhorne, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) match at Cairn University by the score of 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Mason Activity Center.

How It Happened
 
* Abington was held to only 16 kills in the match; the second fewest kills in a three-set match this season by the Nittany Lions.  The Cairn offense totaled 45 kills, including 19 in the opening set.  The Highlanders recorded a .486 attack percentage in the first set on their way to a 25-15 victory.
 
* In the second set, Abington opened with a 5-1 run, but its lead was countered with a 9-2 surge by Cairn as the Highlanders took a 10-7 lead.  The Nittany Lions answered with a 6-0 run to regain the lead at 13-10.  Both teams would go back and forth until late in the set when Cairn scored six of the final seven points after holding a 19-18 lead.  The Highlanders took the set, 25-19, and then went on to win the third set by the score of 25-6.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Sophomore Ellie Van Otten led the team with six kills, while junior Zayna Jamaladdin added five kills and 10 digs.
 
* Sophomore Fabiola Medina, the United East Defensive Player of the Week, finished with a team-high 16 digs.
 
* Senior Morgan Schaefer totaled seven digs.
 
* For Cairn, Marah Lehman finished with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 15 digs.  Anna Dow totaled 38 assists and 10 digs, while Liliana Magazzu finished with a match-high 22 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 11th meeting between Abington and Cairn since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 5-6 versus the Highlanders in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Brandywine in a United East contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
