Abington Falls to Harrisburg in United East Semifinals

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team saw its season come to an end after a heart-breaking defeat at Penn State Harrisburg in the United East Conference (UEC) semifinals on Wednesday night at the Harrisburg Turf Complex.  The game remained tied after 110 minutes of action and went into a penalty kick shootout to determine the winner.  Harrisburg came up on top of the shootout by the score of 5-3 to advance to the United East championship game.

How It Happened
 
* Freshman Aramis Shire gave Abington a 1-0 lead after scoring in the 57th minute.  Shire connected on a free kick that curved over the Harrisburg defensive wall and found the inside of the left post for his fifth goal of the season.
 
* The score remained 1-0 in favor of Abington until the 84th minute when Harrisburg tied the game with a goal by Malachi Abma.  Abma's goal came off a free kick at the top of the box.
 
* In overtime, each team had one shot, but neither was on-goal.  After two 10-minute scoreless overtime periods, the game went into a penalty kick shootout.  The first three kickers by both teams scored off their attempts to keep the shootout tied at 3-3.  Harrisburg's Wiliam Kim made his attempt before a miss by Abington.  Ahead 4-3, Parker Christina sealed the victory for Harrisburg after connecting on his attempt to end the shootout, 5-3.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 11th meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 3-5-3 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series, including 1-1-1 in the postseason.  The last three meetings between the two teams have ended in ties.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions were competing in the postseason for the 12th time and ninth straight since joining NCAA Division III in 2011.  Abington is now 11-8-2 in the United East Tournament (formerly NEAC) and 4-5-2 in the semifinals.
