Abington Falls to Seahawks in United East Quarterfinals

St. Mary's City, Md. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team fell to second-seeded St. Mary's College (Md.) by the score of 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the United East Conference (UEC) championships on Saturday at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.  The seventh-seeded Nittany Lions finished their season 15-10 overall and 6-5 in the United East.

How It Happened
 
* In the opening set, St. Mary's led throughout despite Abington keeping things close deep into the set.  The Nittany Lions only trailed by three points after sophomore Brynn Atkins made the score 19-16 with a kill.  However, the Seahawks followed with six straight points to close the set at 25-16.
 
* The Seahawks used an early run to control the second set. Abington made it a one-point margin at 6-5 after an attack error by the Seahawks, but St. Mary's used a 5-0 run to increase its lead to 11-5.  The home squad went on to maintain their lead and take the set, 25-15.
 
* In the third set, the Seahawks opened with a 7-1 run and then swelled its lead to 17-5 after a big 6-0 surge. St. Mary's totaled 16 kills in the final set.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Zayna Jamaladdin finished with a team-high five kills.  Jamaladdin finished the year with a career-high 264 kills and an average of 3.18 per set.
 
* Atkins recorded two block assists as she increased her career total blocks number to 172. 
 
* Junior Ryenn Mamrosch totaled 14 assists and a team-high 11 digs. 
 
* Senior Morgan Schaefer had a pair of digs in her final collegiate match.  Schaefer finishes her career with 719 digs; sixth most in program history.
 
* For St. Mary's, Julia Bobrowski led the match with 11 kills to go along with eight digs.  Camilla Galeano totaled 18 assists and 11 digs, while Stella Marrero led the team with 12 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the sixth meeting between Abington and St. Mary's since the start of the 2021 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-6 versus the Seahawks in the all-time series.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions were appearing in the postseason for the sixth time since the 2012 season.  Abington is now 4-6 all-time in the United East tournament (formerly NEAC).
