Abington Falls to Eagles in Non-Conference Clash

Morristown, N.J. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at Saint Elizabeth University by the score of 86-77 on Thursday night at Saint Joseph Gym.

How It Happened
 
* Abington held the largest lead in the first half after senior JoJo Kelly scored a layup basket five minutes in to give the Nittany Lions a 14-6 lead.  However, Saint Elizabeth answered with a 19-4 run over the game's next five minutes to lead 25-18 midway through the half.
 
* The Nittany Lions eventually regained the lead after a tip-in basket by junior Tyler Fox tied the game at 34-34.  On the team's next possession, junior Mike Byfield gave Abington a 36-34 lead after converting a pair of free throws with less than three minutes to play until halftime. The Nittany Lions entered the locker rooms at the half with a 41-39 advantage.
 
* In the second half, Saint Elizabeth regained the lead and led by seven points at the 11-minute mark after Joseph Mazzola hit a three-pointer to make the score 60-53.  Abington answered back with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 62-62. With 7:31 to play.  Fox drilled a pair of three-pointers to bookend the rally with Byfield also knocking down a shot from deep range.  
 
* The Eagles broke the tie two possessions later and went on to build a nine-point lead entering the final minute of play.  Saint Elizabeth never relinquished the lead back to Abington in the final six-plus minutes of regulation after they recaptured the lead.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Fox scored a season-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists.
 
* Kelly also scored 19 points sharing the team lead with Fox.  He added four rebounds and two assists.
 
* Byfield finished the night with 16 points; one shy of his season-high. He grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season.
 
* Sophomore Tyler Meinel also scored in double-figures as he totaled 12 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists.
 
* Junior Tamir Powell added nine points and eight rebounds.
 
* For Saint Elizabeth, Tye-Rell Monroe scored a game-high 34 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the field.  Josiah King finished with 19 points, while Cam'Ron Martel recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the eighth meeting between Abington and Saint Elizabeth since the start of the 2016-17 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 5-3 versus the Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington is idle until New Years Eve when the Nittany Lions travel to face Division I Columbia University in an exhibition contest.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
