Abington Closes Out Season at Valley Forge

Phoenixville, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team closed out the regular season at the University of Valley Forge as the Nittany Lions dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest by the score of 79-67 on Saturday afternoon at The Pit.

How It Happened
 
* Abington started the game on a 7-2 run before Valley Forge came back to tie the game at 7-7.  Both teams exchanged leads before the Patriots took the lead for good.  With the game tied 14-14 at the 13:19 mark, the home team scored nine unanswered points and held a 23-14 lead by the midway point of the half.
 
* The Patriots lead hit double-digits later in the half when Yaone Badisang scored a layup to make the score 30-19 with 7:25 to play until halftime. The Valley Forge lead swelled to as many as 16 points on three occasions with the latter coming with two minutes on the clock at 40-24.
 
* In the final two minutes of the half, the Nittany Lions went on a 10-0 run capped by a three-pointer from senior Kolby Miller to make the score 40-34.  The Patriots managed a basket before the half was up and let 42-34 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* Abington faced another large deficit in the second half with the Patriots leading 68-51 at the 7:45 mark. The Nittany Lions rallied and used a 10-2 run to cut the lead to single digits.  Freshman Ryan Black connected on a three-pointer to make the score 70-61 with just over four minutes to play in regulation.
 
* Abington made it a two-possession game with 2:11 to play when freshman Jahad Marable scored a layup basket to make the score 70-65. However, back-to-back scores on the next two Patriots' possessions gave the home team a 74-65 lead in the final :50 seconds.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Marable led all scorers with a season-high 21 points (8-14 FG) to go along with 11 rebounds as he recorded his fourth double-double of the season. 
 
* Black scored a season-high 17 points as he shot 6-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
 
* Senior Kobe Devine also scored in double-figures as he totaled 10 points, four assists, three rebounds and a game-high four steals.
 
* For Valley Forge, Christian Renninger scored a team-high 17 points, while Nasir Bernard recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Valley Forge.  The Patriots completed the season sweep of the Nittany Lions taking both the regular season match-ups.
