Abington Blanks Statesmen, 4-0

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team picked up its first win of the season after shutting down Hobart College, 4-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday morning at Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field.

How It Happened
 
* Abington gave freshman Mike Nasti all the runs he would need in the bottom of the first inning.  Junior Cory DiMario led the inning off with an infield hit and then scored on a double by senior Shane Fillman to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.
 
* Abington doubled its lead in the third when Fillman struck again, this time a solo home run over the right field fence.  Fillman wasn't done because in the fifth he drove in DiMario for the second time in the game to increase the lead to 3-0.
 
* Senior Gaeten Grandelli capped the scoring in the seventh after hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to score DiMario.  It marked DiMario's third run of the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Nasti (1-1) picked up his first collegiate victory as he blanked the Statesmen in 6.1 innings of work.  He allowed just two hits finished the game with four strikeouts.
 
* Fillman was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and his first home run of the season.  He scored a run and drove in three.
 
* DiMario finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
 
* Senior Josh McGee also had multiple hits in the game as he went 2-for-3.
 
* Sophomore James Torpey entered the game in relief and held the Statesmen to just one hit while striking out three in 2.2 innings.
 
* For Hobart, Teck Nash (0-1) went 6.1 innings in the start and allowed three runs on nine hits.  Nash finished with five strikeouts.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Hobart.

Abington returns to action on Tuesday, March 4 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference contest.  First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
