Abington Edged by Chargers in United East First-Round

Landisville, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team fell short in the United East Conference (UEC) Championships to fourth-seeded Lancaster Bible College by the score of 4-3 in a First-Round match on Friday afternoon at the Hempfield Rec Center.  The fourth-seeded Nittany Lions conclude their season at 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference play this year. The nine victories are the most by the Nittany Lions since winning eighth matches in 2018-19.

How It Happened
 
* Abington made quick work in doubles as the Nittany Lions earned the win at third doubles by forfeit and the duo of senior Isabella DePorre and sophomore Laurie Flemming won their first doubles match by the score of 6-1.  It marked their 12th doubles victory of the season.
 
* Flemming, the reigning United East Player of the Week, won her 12th singles match of the season as she defeated Sierra Hartmann in straight sets by the score of 6-1, 6-0 at first singles.
 
* Abington also picked up the team point at sixth singles by forfeit to account for the three team points in the match.
 
* Lancaster Bible was victorious at second, third, fourth and fifth singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 16th meeting between Abington and Lancaster Bible since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 10-6 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions, appearing in their 13th straight conference championship, is now 7-13 all-time in the United East/NEAC Tournament.
