Purchase, N.Y. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team fell short by the score of 1-0 against Manhattanville University in its second of two road games to open up the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
 
* In a defensive battle, Abington had its chances early in the game.  In the fifth minute, sophomore Frankie Rafferty had a header-shot stopped by the Valiants keeper, AJ Lucas.  Minutes later Lucas made another save off a shot by senior Jayden Barragan.  The Nittany Lions didn't have another shot until the 36th minute but sophomore Temur Temirov's shot was saved by Lucas.  All three of Abington shot's in the first half were on-goal.
 
* Senior goalkeeper Brendan Werner made two saves in the first half and finished with three in the game.  Werner made a clutch stop in the 44th minute of a header shot from Manhattanville's Johnny Antolino to keep the game scoreless heading into the half.
 
* Abington pressured the Valiants' defense to start the second half.  The Nittany Lions fired off three shots and had two corner kick opportunities within the first five minutes but was unable to find the back of the net.
 
* In the 63rd minute Manhattanville broke the deadlock score with a score by Nico Del Vescovo for his first goal of the season.
 
* Abington had chances to tie the game but Lucas made two more saves on shots by sophomore Nick Golter (67') and junior Dylcan Walker (76') to keep the score at 1-0.  The Nittany Lions produced a corner kick opportunity in the 88th minute, however they were unable to get off a shot in attempt to tie the game.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Manhattanville.  The Valiants also defeated the Nittany Lions last year at Memorial Field by the score of 1-0.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 3 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
