Abington Falls Short at Ramapo, 2-1

Mahwah, N.J. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at Ramapo College by the score of 2-1 on Wednesday night at Ramapo's Athletic Center Turf Field.

How It Happened
 
* Abington struck first as junior Nayeska Ravelo scored her first goal of the season in the 27th minute to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.  Senior Amanda Armstrong was credited with an assist on the play marking her first career helper.
 
* The Nittany Lions nearly escaped the first half with a 1-0 on the road, however Ramapo's Marisa Christ tied the game at 1-1 with less than three minutes to play until halftime with an unassisted goal.
 
* The Roadrunners pressured the Abington defense with 13 first half shots along with 21 for the game. 
 
* The score remained tied until the 87th minute when Ramapo's Amber Maher found the back of the net to give the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead.  Kelly Sanchez assisted on what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Ravelo's first half goal marked her first of the season and 17th of her career.  She is now ranked tied for 10th among the program's all-time goal scorers.

* Freshman Sam Ridler made seven saves in net for the Nittany Lions; one shy of her season high.
 
* Senior Ice Longenbach finished with a team-high three shots, while sophomores Kaitlyn Frank and Meghan McGinly each totaled two shots on-goal.
 
* Maher led the Roadrunners with six shots, including two on-goal.  Goalkeeper Gabby Matias finished with six saves.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Ramapo.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 as the Nittany Lions travel to face William Paterson University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 12 p.m.
