Abington Drops Non-Conference Matchup at William Paterson

Wayne, N.J. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at William Paterson University by the score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Pioneers Soccer Park.

How It Happened
 
* The Pioneers scored on their first shot attempt of the game as Janie Henderson gave the home team a 1-0 lead with her early goal in the fourth minute.
 
* Abington had its chances to tie the game, especially in the 18th minute when junior Nayeska Ravelo got a shot off on-goal but was stopped by the Pioneers' Sarah Mantilla.
 
* William Paterson doubled its lead early in the second half when Samantha Donovan found the back of the net in the 50th minute to make the score 2-0.
 
* Less than 10 minutes later, Abington lit up the scoreboard thanks to an unassisted goal by sophomore Meghan McGinly.  It marked her first goal of the season as the lead was cut to 2-1 in the 59th minute.
 
* As the second half progressed the Nittany Lions had opportunities to came through the equalizer.  Ravelo had another shot on-target stopped by Mantilla in the 66th minute.  Down the stretch in the 81st minute, McGinly fired a shot on-goal that was ultimately saved by Mantilla for her fourth and final stop of the game.

* Ravelo and McGinly accounted for all eight shots by the Nittany Lions.  Ravelo had five shots with three on-target, while McGinly finished with three shots, including two on-goal.
 
* Junior goalkeeper Kayla Kulp made five saves in net for the Nittany Lions in her third start of the season.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the second meeting between Abington and William Paterson.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-2-0 versus the Pioneers in the all-time series.  William Paterson won last year's matchup in Abington by the same score.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17 as the Nittany Lions welcome Alvernia University to Memorial Field for the first time in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
