Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Abington Outlasts Golden Wolves, 1-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team battled past visiting Alvernia University by the score of 1-0 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at a rainy Memorial Field.  The weather played a factor in the second half with periods of heavy rain as well as over an hour lightning delay with 9:26 remaining in the second half.

How It Happened
 
* The game's lone goal came in the 27th minute as sophomore Kaitlyn Frank gave Abington a 1-0 lead with her first score of the season.  Frank made a defensive stop in Abington's attack zone and stole the ball from the defender right outside the box.  Frank then made a move to better position herself and fired a shot over the goalkeeper's head for the goal.
 
* Sam Ridler, who started the first half in net for Abington, made a key stop in the 42nd minute to keep the score at 1-0 heading into halftime. Ridler finished the half with three total saves.
 
* In the second half junior Kayla Kulp took over in net for the Nittany Lions.  Kulp made four saves to preserve the combined shutout for her and Ridler.  She also made a stop on the Golden Wolves final shot of the game by Camille Quirin-Morris in the 83rd minute.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Alvernia outshot the Nittany Lions, 12-6, in the game, including seven shots in the second half.  Abington though held the edge in corner kicks, 7-3, with four coming in the final 45 minutes.
 
* Frank led the team with three shots, while junior Nayeska Ravelo had two with both being on-goal.  Senior Amanda Armstong also had a shot in the game.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Alvernia.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Pratt Institute in the non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
