Abington Suffers Five Set Defeat Versus Griffins

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team came up short in a five-set match at Gwynedd Mercy University as the Griffins won the fifth set by the score of 15-9 to take the match, 3-2, in a non-conference contest on Thursday evening at the Griffin Complex.

* Junior Zayna Jamaladdin tied her career-high with 20 kills after reaching the mark just two nights ago against Rutgers University – Newark.  Jamaladdin also finished the night with three aces, four total blocks (1BS/3BA) and five digs.
 
* Sophomore Angel Morales finished the night with a match-high 23 digs on defense.
 
* Junior Ryenn Mamrosch paced the offense with 32 assists to go along with 14 digs and two aces.
 
* Senior Morgan Schaefer totaled a season-high 12 digs.
 
* Junior Brynn Atkins recorded five total blocks, including two solo blocks and three block assists. 
 
* Sophomore Ellie Van Otten added eight kills and five digs, while junior Kayla Mason contributed seven kills and five digs.
 
* For Gwynedd Mercy, Kate Etter led the team with 20 kills, while Charlotte Pugh finished with 16 kills and a team-best 23 digs.  Ayanna Gaston totaled 45 assists and 13 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Gwynedd Mercy since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 7-5 versus the Griffins in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6 as the Nittany Lions take part in a tri-match hosted by Penn State Brandywine.  The Nittany Lions will face Bryn Mawr College at 1 p.m. and then take on Brandywine at 3 p.m.
