How It Happened

* After dropping the first two sets, Abington extended the match with a 25-21 victory in set number three.  The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 4-1 lead and pushed its advantage to 9-4 before the Seahawks came within two points of the lead at 10-8.  Abington responded with seven straight points to increase its lead to nine at 17-8.  The Nittany Lions held a comfortable lead the rest of the way before taking the set by five points at 25-20.

* The momentum carried into the fourth set as Abington built an 11-5 advantage.  An ace by senior Kayla Mason capped a mini 5-0 run that also featured a pair of kills by senior Zayna Jamaladdin.  The Abington lead swelled to 20-13 later in the half after the Nittany Lions completed a quick 4-0 run capped off by a kill from junior Ellie Van Otten.  The run appeared to reach five straight points, which would have given the Nittany Lions a 21-13 lead, however a call reversal gave St. Mary's the point on an attack by Sanaa Porter to make the score 20-14.  That point propelled the Seahawks to a 12-1 run to close out the set with a 25-21 victory.
