Abington Falls to Cairn in United East Quarterfinals

Langhorne, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team saw its season come to an end after falling to Cairn University, 105-73, in the United East Conference (UEC) quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the Mason Activity Center.

How It Happened
 
* Cairn jumped out to a 19-2 lead over the first five-plus minutes of the game.  Despite the 17-point deficit, Abington came roaring back with a 17-2 run of its own to come within two points of tying the game.  Senior JoJo Kelly knocked down a three-pointer to cap the run to make the score 21-19 midway through the half.
 
* The Highlanders responded with a 9-0 run to regain their double-digit lead after Corey Baldwin drained a three-pointer to make the score 30-19 at the 6:53 mark.  Cairn went on to take a 47-32 advantage into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* In the second half, the Highlanders maintained its double-digit lead and outscored the Nittany Lions by a 58-41 margin. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Tyler Fox scored a team-high 29 points to tie his season-high as he shot 11-of-22 from the field.  Fox also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
* Kelly finished the game with 15 points to go along with six rebounds.  He finished the season averaging 19.9 points per game after scoring 498 total points; third-most all-time in a single season.
 
* Junior Jamze Johnson scored a season-high nine points off the bench shooting 3-of-4 from the field.
 
*Junior K'Mari Smith added eight points and six rebounds, while junior Mike Byfield finished with eight points and five boards.
 
* For Cairn, Baldwin scored a game-high 32 points after shooting 8-of-12 from beyond the arc. Jaylon Simpson finished with 29 points as he connected with 6-of-20 from deep range.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Abington and Cairn since the start of the 2012-13 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 6-7 versus the Highlanders in the all-time series.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions are now 3-6 in the United East tournament after making their sixth appearance overall and first since 2023.
