Lucky Seven: Abington Wins 7th Straight with 13-11 Victory Over Vassar

Davenport, Fla. – The Penn State Abington baseball team won its seventh straight game and improved to 5-0 on its Spring Trip after defeating Vassar College, 13-11, in a non-conference contest at the RussMatt Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

How It Happened
 
* The Abington offense wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard as the Nittany Lions plated eight runs in the opening frame.  Thirteen batters appeared in the inning combining for eight hits.  Freshman Josh Daly highlighted the inning with a three-run double for his first collegiate hit.  Daly finished the game 3-for-5 in his collegiate debut.
 
* Vassar answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it an 8-2 game.  Later in the game the Brewers grabbed the lead after scoring three runs in the third and four in the fourth to take a 9-8 advantage.
 
* Abington regained the lead in the sixth after scoring three runs in the inning.  Freshman Jaxon Horvath, and juniors Andrew Charzewski and Domenic Lotruglio recorded back-to-back-to-back run scoring hits to give Abington an 11-9 lead.
 
* The Nittany Lions added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to make it a 13-9 game.  Freshman Zach Salsbery led the inning off with a double and then scored on a Vassar error as junior Mike Brocco reached base.  Brocco later scored on another hit by Lotruglio. 
 
* The Brewers got a run in the bottom of the seventh off a solo home run by Noah Stockman.  In the ninth, Jack Johnson led the inning off with a pinch-hit home run before junior Zachary Dennis retired the next three batters, including two strikeouts to register the save.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Salsbery recorded the first three hits of his collegiate career as he finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  He also reached base with a walk.
 
* Daly had an impressive collegiate debut going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
 
* Horvath also recorded three hits as he finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
 
* Charzewski recorded multiple hits with a 2-for-5 performance at the plate.  He scored twice in the game and drove in a run.
 
* Junior Jack Wright (1-0) picked up his first win in an Abington uniform after pitching 3.2 innings of relief.  He struck out five batters and allowed just one run while scattering two hits.
 
* Dennis notched the save with two innings of relief.  He struck out four while allowing one run on two hits.
 
* For Vassar, Aidan Annello went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, while Nick Stockman finished 2-for-5 with two RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Vassar.

Abington returns to action on Wednesday, March 11 as the Nittany Lions face Greenville University in a non-conference contest.  First pitch is set for 1:45 p.m.
