How It Happened

* Abington trailed 9-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning and by inning's end the Nittany Lions cut the deficit to just two runs. Junior Akira Nakamura led the inning off with a walk and junior Donato Incollingo followed with a double advancing Nakamura to third.  Two batters later, freshman John Busco delivered a triple to right field scoring both Nakamura and Incollingo.  Busco would later score on a wild pitch. As the inning progressed, sophomore John Marcucci drove in a run with an infield hit and Nakamura, in his second at-bat of the inning, drew a bases loaded walk to cap the scoring and make the score 9-7.

* The Fighting Scots responded in the top half of the eighth.  James Coats drove in a pair of runs to increase Gordon's lead to 11-7.

* In the bottom of the eighth the Nittany Lions took advantage of wildness from the Gordon pitching staff.  The first two batters reached base on walks with senior Zach Bauers eventually scoring on a wild pitch for the first run of the inning. Marcucci made it a two-run game with a run scoring double and then pinch hitter, junior Andrew Holt, tied the game with a two-run double to right field.  Nakamura pushed across the go-ahead run with a ground out to third as junior Nathan Schurga scored who reached base earlier after getting hit by a pitch.

* Junior Zachary Dennis closed things out in the bottom of the ninth despite the potential tying run reaching base with one out in the inning.  Dennis retired the next batter and then struck out Aaron Ferreira seal the come-from-behind victory for his first win of the season. Dennis pitched the final two frames and struck out four batters.
