How It Happened

* Notre Dame never trailed in the game after scoring three first inning runs.  The Gators' first three batters all singled leading to the first run off the bat of Hunter Bell.  Then a fielder's choice and a ground out pushed across the other two runs for a 3-0 lead.

* The score remained 3-0 until the top half of the fourth when Abington got on the board with a run of its own.  Freshman Jaxon Horvath drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.  However, in the bottom of the inning the Gators added four runs to increase their lead to 7-1.  Mark Reineke and Brendan Altman each drove in a pair of runs.

* Abington got two runs back in the top of the fifth after freshman John Busco and junior Akira Nakamura each drove in a run to make the score 7-3.  The Nittany Lions added a run in the sixth thanks to a run scoring double by junior Andrew Holt.  Then in the seventh, senior Zach Bauers came through with a two-run single to bring Abington to within one run of the lead at 7-6.

* The potential Abington comeback was halted in the bottom of the seventh as the Gators batted around and scored six runs to make a one-run game into a 13-6 advantage.  Hunter Beil and Ben Boyer each recorded two-run doubles in the inning.

* The Nittany Lions added a pair of runs in the eighth but that would be as close as they would get of the Gators' lead at 13-8.  Junior Nathan Schurga forced in a run with a groundout while a sacrifice fly by Busco plated the team's final run of the game.
