Abington Drops Doubleheader to Lancaster Bible

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington softball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) doubleheader against Lancaster Bible College by the scores of 13-6 and 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Huntingdon Field.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Lancaster Bible opened the game with an eight-run first inning as the Chargers recorded six hits and took advantage of three Abington errors in the frame.  Grace Goodman highlighted the inning with a three-run double.
 
* The Nittany Lions answered in the bottom of the first with six runs of their own to make it a two-run game at 8-6.  Abington tallied five hits in the inning and benefited from three Chargers' miscues in the field.  Five players drove in runs in the inning, including junior Isabella Antosiewicz who recorded a run scoring triple.
 
* The score remained 8-6 until the third when the Chargers added another two runs.  Maddison Atkins forced in a run after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then KariAnn Mecke drove in a run with a base hit.
 
* Lancaster Bible tacked on three more runs in the sixth with Kendall Jackman driving in a pair with a single. 
 
* After the first inning, Atkins held Abington to just five hits and struck out four batters.  She finished the game with five K's.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Antosiewicz went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Peck finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Craig also had multiple hits as she went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
 
* For Lancaster Bible, Jackman finished 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Mecke went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Abington trailed 2-0 heading into the final frame and went on to score two runs to tie the game and force extra-innings.  With two outs in the inning, Antosiewicz drew a bases loaded walk to force in Peck who led the inning off with a single down the left field line.  Junior Lainey Scotese then drove in Craig to tie the game.  Junior Marlena Hacker tried to score but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
 
* In the extra frame, the Chargers scored two runs to take a 4-2 lead as Atkins recorded a two-run double.
 
* Freshman Tori Colagreco drove in sophomore Celeste Chang who pinch ran for senior Jill Thomas who was placed on second base to start the inning. Colagreco hit a sacrifice fly to left to make the score 4-3.  However, the Chargers' Ava Stern retired the next batter to close out the game.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Peck had a pair of hits in the game as she went 2-for-4 with a run scored. 
 
* Sophomore Riley Logan had the team's lone extra base hit after going 1-for-3 in the game.
 
* Freshman Iris Chapman went the distance for Abington as she allowed two earned runs while scattering eight hits in eight innings of work.
 
* For Lancaster Bible, Atkins finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 36th and 37th matchup between Abington and Lancaster Bible since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 28-9 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, April 15 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Gallaudet University in a United East doubleheader.  Game one is set for 3 p.m.
