Abington Falls to Berks in United East First Round

Reading, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team saw its season come to an end after falling to Penn State Berks, 4-3, in the United East Conference (UEC) first round match on Friday afternoon at Gring's Mills.

How It Happened
 
* Berks took the first edge in the match after winning the team point in doubles competitions.  Berks won at first doubles, 6-4, and at second doubles, 6-1.
 
* Abington's thirds doubles team of sophomore Charlie Batman and freshman Kaan Ofluoglu trailed 2-0 early in their match against Talan Nguyen and Jazae Maina-Itegi.  However, the Abington duo won six straight points to win the match, 6-2.
 
* Both Batman and Ofluoglu each won their respective singles matches.  At fifth singles, Ofluoglu shutout Evan Imschweiler in the first set, 6-0, and then took the match with a 6-3 victory in set two. Batman cruised to a straight sets victory at sixth singles over Caleb Corjuc after winning both sets by identical 6-2 scores.
 
* Freshman Sanat Juneja picked up the win at fourth singles with a straight sets victory against Joseph Martin.  Juneja won by the scores of 6-3, 6-4.
 
* With the match tied 3-3, Berks recorded the decisive team point with Nguyen winning first singles.  Berks also won at second and third singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 19th meeting between Abington and Berks since the start of the 2011-12 season.  Abington is now 11-8 versus Berks in the all-time series.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions were making their 13th appearance in the postseason since joining Division III.  Abington is now 8-12 all-time in the United East Tournament (formerly NEAC).
