Incollingo Records 100th RBI as Nittany Lions Prevail Over Gators

Jenkintown, Pa. – Junior Donato Incollingo connected on eighth home run of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning and as a result recorded his 100th career RBI as the Penn State Abington baseball team defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University, 10-9, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Tuesday afternoon at Alverthorpe Park.

The Nittany Lions walked it off in the bottom of the ninth after scoring two runs in the inning.  Junior Benjamin Gagnon's infield hit in the hole at short tied the game at 10-10 and three batters later, sophomore John Marcucci hit a shallow fly ball to left field that dropped in for a hit that scored sophomore Kal-El Seng for the game-winning run.

How It Happened

*  With the game tied 5-5, Incollingo led the bottom of the fifth off with his eighth home run of the season to give Abington a 6-5 lead.  The momentum carried over to the sixth when the Nittany Lions added two more runs.  Junior Nathan Schurga connected on a one-out single and Marcucci followed with a double to right-center to place two runners in scoring position.  Freshman John Busco hit a sharp ground-ball to short that was botched by the Gators' shortstop allowing Schurga and Marcucci to score.

* Abington added another run in the seventh to increase its lead to 9-5.  Gagnon hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored senior Zach Bauers who led the inning off with a base hit.

* Notre Dame made things interesting in the final two frames.  The Gators cut the deficit to 9-6 with a run in the eighth.  A Mark Reineke double scored Ryan Parks who earlier reached on a double of his own.  In the ninth, a leadoff infield hit was the Gators' lone knock in the inning, however they took advantage of six walks in the inning by Abington pitching to not only tie the game but take the lead at 10-9 by inning's end.

* Abington had some magic of its own in the bottom of the inning.  A walk by Bauers followed by back-to-back hits by freshman Jaxon Horvath and Gagnon led to the game-tying run.  Two batters later, junior Nathan Schurga drew a walk to load the bases as Marcucci followed with the walk-off hit to left as Abington prevailed for an 11-10 victory.
