Haverford, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped its season opener on the road against Haverford College by the score of 7-0 on Tuesday evening at Walton Field.

How It Happened
 
* Haverford's Devyn Telleen broke a scoreless tie in the 22nd with the team's first of four goals in the final 23-plus minutes of the first half.  Four different players scored for the Fords.
 
* In the second half, Haverford added three more goals, including the final two by Sophia Mitchell who recorded her first career hat-trick.  Mitchell also scored a goal in the first half.

* Freshman Grace Smith led the Nittany Lions with three shots, while junior Kaitlyn Frank recorded the team's other shot in the game.
 
* Junior goalkeeper Sam Ridler made a career-high 13 saves in net, while senior Kayla Kulp made double-digit saves for the second time in her Abington career with 10.

Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Haverford.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 3 as the Nittany Lions travel to face FDU-Florham in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
